A new adventure awaits
15.04.2019 - 16.04.2019 25 °C
Tomorrow we’ll be leaving a pleasant Melbourne autumn for the still a bit chilly spring of Europe. Might be tough but we think we can cope!
Our trip will combine a familiar travel passion of experiencing new landscapes, cultures, towns and cities by bike with a new mode of travel using barge and boat (or ship as Keith has corrected me). The motivation for the trip was firstly to spread our cycling wings into the Netherlands, a country well known for its cycling culture and excellent network of cycle paths, and secondly to do it during the short 5 - 6 week springtime display of its famous flower, the tulip.
We begin in Amsterdam, where after a few days of R&R, we will board the ‘Elodie’ for a 7 night bike and barge tour. Friends who have previously travelled on the Elodie report that it will be a great experience, with fantastic crew, an amazing chef and, with just seven other couples, comfortable and hopefully, convivial. Following this we will cycle independently for another week, following one of the many long distance cycle routes in the Netherlands. Then it’s goodbye to the Netherlands and a change of pace as we board a cruise ship to spend the next fifteen nights cruising the Baltic from Stockholm to Bergen in Norway.
And just in case we’re too relaxed after that, we’ll spend a few nights in Hong Kong on the way home.
We’re pretty excited about our trip! Look forward to you joining us!
Whilst we‘ll be trying to keep you updated on the wonderful things we’re seeing and doing, you may not hear from us as regularly or comprehensively as in previous blogs. Our lame excuses are that there’s no wifi on the barge (what!!!!!???) and we think we’ll be pretty busy doing tours and enjoying all that shipboard life has to offer whilst on the cruise. Do hope you’ll understand!
Don’t forget to keep in touch with us too!
Bye for now,
Maggie & Keith
